relationships
cloudI think that right from the off, when Cloud met Aerith on the flowerbed in the Sector 7 Slums' chruch (actually, this was their second meeting), they became friends instantly. All romantic aspects aside, these two had some great chemistry. Aerith definitley provided contrast for their friendship by her easy-going, fun-loving nature. She lightened his personality up a bit, because we all remember at the beginning what a hard-ass Cloud was. After Cloud's incident witht that huge robot, Aerith asked if Cloud would become her bodyguard, so she could get home safely. Even though this request was just for Aerith to get home, he never really stopped being her bodyguard until the end of disk one. I think Aerith brought out the best in Cloud. In all the hard times they went through, she always tried her best to make things better, even if she wasn't successful. Together, her and Cloud achieved many great things. It was Aerith who motivated Cloud to go on, even after she died, and fight for what what he believed in. Aerith also made him have a greater appreciation for his other friends, like Tifa and Barret, who were with him right from the beginning.
tifa
I'll be honest here, I wont come out and say that Tifa and Aerith had the most perfect friendship. They obviously both fancied Cloud quite a bit, and were often found in certain uncomfortable situations in which they almost forced Cloud to choose between them. But, just as I fight with my friends over silly things, so did they. I think it was Aerith who made Tifa realize just how important Cloud was to her. Seeing Cloud be with another woman, rather romantically or not, made her jealous. During the Don Corneo scene, they met for the first time, and I think that part was brilliant. It definitely established something. Since it seemed that Aerith had the upper side of it all, it created a love triangle, in which Aerith was pretty open with Cloud about her emotions, but Tifa tried to conceal them. Maybe Aerith even wanted Cloud and Tifa to be together, because she was still hung up on Zack. I think Tifa really wanted to be good friends with Aerith, but was afraid to, because she might lose what she had with Cloud if she got too much into it. I saw that those emotions came out quite strong after Aerith died, because Tifa brushed Aerith's hair with her hand, and then ran off crying.
barret
The relationship between Aerith and Barret was strong. I think they possibly might have had a daughter/father relationship going on. Now don't get me wrong, because it wasn't obvious, not at all actually. But at the beginning, Barret had to be away from his daughter Marlene for quite some time, and almost lost her to the reactor explosion. Barret felt a wave of gratitude towards Aerith because she rescued Marlene and took her to her house. Then, because of Marlene, Aerith was captured by the Turks, and held captive in the Shinra building. When Aerith died, words just weren't enough for Barret to express his sadness, so her tried to comfort Cloud, but backed off.
red XIII
I always laugh thinking back on how Aerith and Red XIII met. They weren't exactly in the best of situations. After Aerith had been captured by the Turks, she was put into some sort of tank together with Red XIII. Apparentley, Hojo wanted them to breed because they were both the last of heir races (Aerith, being a Cetra, and Red, uhhh, something or other). When Hojo gave them the go, Red IIIX was actually ready to pounce, but fooling everyone, was trying to break out. When they escaped, he was quite intelligent, and apologized for trying to, ahem, attack her. I think Red XIII and Aerith could empathize with eachother, both being the last of their races, and both greatly desired by people who want to "do strange things" to them. When Aerith died, Red howled, probably for a sign of respect.
yuffie
Yuffie and Aerith, well, had something. I don't think they conversed with eachother very much, but maybe Yuffie looked up to her. Aerith was strong and intelligent, and since Yuffie was still young, wanted to be like her. Yuffie was pretty upset after Aerith's death and cryed on Clouds shoulder, I'm not quite sure where her emotions came from, but then again, when your as young as Yuffie, and trying to find yourself, losses can be very difficult to deal with.
cid
When we all met Cid, he was a big jerk. He swore, he yelled, and he lost his temper easily. Aerith did not help with any of this. It just goes to show that you can't fully change a person. I think Cid was fond of Aerith. She was really interested in ships, and Cid promised at one point to take her for a ride on one when it was all over. Shortly after her death, Cid remembered his promise to her, and was sad that he could never fulfill it.
cait sith
Cait Sith knew Aerith. Since he was actually being controlled by one of the Turks for a long poriod of time, he probably knew all about her. When he met up with Cloud and Aerith at the Golden Saucer, he predicted their future, saying that they were very compatible, and that Cloud would also lose someone dear to him. For all the phoney stuff Cait Sith predicted, I think he was a true Seer, and Aerith respected that, being like a true Seer herself.
vincent
Is there really anything to say for this? I don't think that Aerith and Vincent spoke even once throughout the whole game (well, disk one, that is). He only had conversations with Cloud, and was in too much despair about his life and his lost lover Lucrecia (Spelling?) to think about anything else. Hmm, yet there are some Vincet x Aerith coupling pages out there, so maybe he watched from the sidelines and fell in love with her ... hmm, maybe not.
