elmyra

Elmyra is Aerith's adoptive mother. Elmyra's husband had been fighting a war in Wutai for some time, and she was waiting for many years for him to come home. They'd never had any children before. Everyday, Elmyra would come to the train station, hoping that her husband would finally come. But each day brought her more disappointment. One day, however, when she came by the train station, she found a little girl by her mother's side. The mother was dying, and her last words were to Elmyra - she said for her to take good care of Aerith, and then died. Elmyra took Aerith in to her home and raised her as her daughter. She always thought that Aerith was spectacular child, for she would speak to spirits and also the planet. One day she told Elmyra that she was sorry because her husband would never be returning. She said that he wanted to come by, but already moved on ( ahem, died). The Turks found out about Aerith's whereabouts and wanted to take her away upon occasion, but she wouldn't let them. After Aerith met Cloud and was kidnapped by Shinra, Elmyra never saw her again. From then on, she took in Marlene as her charge; you don't hear much about her after the first disk.

professor gast

Professor Gast was Aerith's biological father who used to work as a scientist at Shinra Corp. Some of his work was similar to Hojo's but he decided to leave because of things they had to do. I'm not quite sure when he met Aerith's mother, but they eventually moved in together at the Icicle Inn and had Aerith, who would be half human/half Cetra. Gast only knew his small daughter for a few weeks, and then was killed by Shinra soldiers.

ifalna

Ifalna was a beautiful young woman who was the last pure-blooded Cetra. She got married to Professor Gast (who was an ex-Shinra scientist), and then gave birth to Aerth in the Icicle Inn. Ifalna loved Aerith very much, but unfortunately, after only a few weeks into Aerith's birth, their home was attacked by Shinra soldiers. For along time they had been wanting to take Ifalna and do all sorts of tests and experiments on her, because she was of a superior race. When Gast refused to give up his wife and home, they killed him on the spot. Together, Ifalna and Aerith fled, but sadly were captured and taken to Midgar, where they were tested on. Some how, they managed to escape and made it all the way to the Slum's train station. Though, Ifalna was so sick from all the testing they did on her, and she could barely move at all. Ifalna died with Aerith by her side.
