enemies

professor hojo

Hojo was the main person responsible for the death of Aerith's parents. He was the one who sent a bunch of Shinra soldiers to the Icicle Inn - to either get info and captives or kill them on the spot. Hojo is also responsible for the gruesome tests done on humans, soldiers, and other species alike. He used lots and lots of mako mixed with jenove cells that ended up horrifically mutilating his experiments far beyond curing.

Long before Aerith's birth, her father - Professor Gast and Hojo found a specimen in which they thought was of the Cetra race. In studying this specimen, they called it the Jenova Project - which took place in the basement of the Shinra Mansion in Niebelheim - and was something that Hojo pretty much dedicated his life to. Later on, Gast left Hojo and fled to the Northern continent where he met Ifalna.

As the game goes on, you find out more and more that Hojo, is quite possibly the real "bad guy" of FF7. From the beginning we find out that he is constantly after Aerith in hopes that she will be the key to finding the Promised Land. He often tricks the party and even gives them hints as to where Sephiroth is. He was also the one who caused all of Cloud's identity problems by experimenting on him and then labelling him a failed experiment. Damn you Hojo!

the turks

Almost immediately when you meet Aerith (for the second time), you find out that the Turks have an interest in her, and have so for some time. Since Aerith was a child, the Turks have been after her, and yet no it such a way you would think. In Elmyra's flashback, you see them come to the house for Aerith but don't take her by force. So, while their orders are to seek Aerith the Cetra, they do not (so it seems) ever take her forcefully ... that is up until the game starts. Even then, her and the Turks are familiar with each other, and speak like they are Acquaintances. Reno even advices the other soldiers to not step on Aerith's flowers ... uh yeah. One the of the Turks, Tseng, even has a bit of a crush on her. So it just goes to show how well they knew Aerith, but it my eyes, that doesn't change the fact that they were enemies ... unless friends are suppose to kidnap you ... c'est possible.

sephiroth

He killed her. I'm guessing that doesn't make them best buds. No way, although Hojo was an evil bastard, Sephiroth was an evil son of a bastard. As though being controlled by Jenova or some other strong force throughout the whole game, Sephiroth's ambition is to destroy or "wound" the planet. By stealing the black materia, he planned to summon Meteor to accomplish this "wound." All in all, his plan was to eventually become a God. He caused so much turmoil - not only for Aerith, but for everyone. He played vicious mind games, destroyed families, and killed the innocent. It felt good to kick his one winged ass at the end.

jenova

It is quite possible that Jenova had everything to do with everything. Her time began over 2000 years prior to the time line of the game. She is a thing. What thing she was, I do not know. She clearly had control over Sephiroth and Hojo, and no doubt over Cloud. She wiped out the entire Cetra race, save perhaps a few, and yet the only line she had in the while game was ... "because you are a puppet." Aren't we all ...
